The Questionnaire With Maximilian Hecker / By Sinai Gez

What are you doing these days?

Rehearsing for my shows in Tel Aviv with my musical partner, Philipp Neumann. Writing lyrics for my new songs. Rehearsing and arranging new songs with my live musicians and my producer, Guy Sternberg. Playing football. Meeting friends. Going out.

What is the first song you ever wrote?

It is called “Song Of A Cave”. I wrote it 1995. There are two versions existing. The second version is actually quite good and I always wonder if I should release it one day. The first song that I wrote that is on one of my albums, is “”Daze Of Nothing” (“Lady Sleep”).

What turns you on creatively?

Happiness, contentedness, balance. I need to be in those mentioned positive states to be able to concentrate. And this special mixture between concentration and relaxation is very important when one tries to be creative.

What is your favorite sound?

The sound of a train from far away when I lie in bed.

If you were a mind-reader whose mind would you like to read?

My ex-girlfriend’s

If you could travel in time, which era would you visit?

The thought of time traveling scares me too much. The world and the way of thinking would be so different if that were possible that at that moment no one would care about for example reanimating the “roaring Sixties”.

What is the album or song that influences you the most?

Several. Chronological order:

Melanie – 20 Super Hits

The Beatles – Abbey Road

Queen – A Night At The Opera

Radiohead – The Bends

Oasis – What’s The Story Morning Glory

Grandaddy – The Sophtware Slump

Travis – The Man Who

Bob Dylan – Blonde On Blonde

Fionn Regan – The End Of History

What artist (alive/deceased) would you like to collaborate with? and why?

John Lennon and Bob Dylan. To me they are the two most interesting figures in music of all time. I would like to find out if they really are cool, wise, vulnerable, geniuses etc. How they are/were in their everyday life.

What drives you crazy?

People who don’t say Hello to you on the street, even though you’re sure they know you.

What makes you laugh?

Mr. Bean

What is the craziest thing you ever did?

I have always been reasonable. And things that are considered “crazy” in a middle-class society don’t count, I guess - like dyeing my hair green and using the women’s toilet at school etc.

What makes you feel embarrassed?

When I have the impression that people see my weak sides. When I have the impression that my voice sounds terrible on stage.

What is the silliest thing you have ever done?

Acting against my principles to please others.

How would you make the world a better place?

I can’t do that. Every single human being is responsible for its actions.

What is your biggest weakness?

Low self-esteem

Where will you be in 10 years?

At home. Safe and sound.
